In recent years, much work has been undertaken within the development to make the gardens as attractive, colourful and varied as they currently are.
In addition to the gardens surrounding the flats, there are two private communal gardens. The first is to the right as you enter the development from Craighall Road. In addition to providing a small, pleasant area for sitting in, there is also a herb garden which is available for residents to use. The second garden is larger and is situated behind the visitor parking area. If you entertain in the gardens, you should ensure that you tidy up afterwards and remove all litter.
The contractor is Roots and Shoots and the company is guided by the Gardening Committee within New Cut Rigg Owners’ Association. Maintenance work takes place twice a month during the growing season and monthly from November to March. Quarterly billing is administered by James Gibb.
Improvement and development work continues as approved at a previous AGM. This agreement allows for a charge of £20 per flat per annum to be made by our factor as projects are carried out throughout the year. The gardening group, in consultation with the gardener, identifies areas where old, tired shrubs need to be replaced and plans ahead for planting as appropriate. We have focussed over the last years on the communal gardens, central beds and areas behind stair 2, 7 and 8. In recent years benches have been bought for the communal garden and behind stair 9.
Plans are underway to improve to replace tired shrubs during 2023.
Essential tree management has been successfully carried out by Capital Trees. Obtrusive overlapping branches from Victoria Park were cut back, an enormous Lime tree at the rear of stairs 8 and 9 reduced in size and some of the newer trees were pruned. We will review the tree management necessary on an annual basis.
